There are few
places in the country with the extensive industrial energy
management experience that WES brings to the table. Mr. Welch has been
conducting industrial energy audits since 1983. He has extensive and
in-depth experience with the major industrial infrastructure systems –
boilers, chillers, pumps, fans, motors & drives, industrial
refrigeration, conveyance, wastewater, lighting, etc…
But what is most unique about Welch Energy Services (WES) is that we also bring a wealth of knowledge of a wide variety of the manufacturing processes themselves. For example, we know that the most energy intensive processes are often the process heating steps. In the US, process heating and steam generation consume more than half of all industrial energy. If you do not address energy consumption of these manufacturing steps directly, you may miss the biggest opportunities. Drying, curing, heat treating, tempering, melting, and other process heating steps consume tremendous amounts of energy and also provide many opportunities for improvement. Mr. Welch is a recognized expert in this arena and can bring great value to your organization. Besides consuming vast amounts of energy, process heating steps present many other challenges for manufacturers. These steps are often production limiting and can be the “bottleneck” of your production process. In addition, they often are responsible for many quality problems (overcuring, undercuring, scorching, underdrying, etc…) Finally, many environmental problems originate in process heating steps. Exhaust from combustion, product off-gassing while heating, flashing of solvents, all of these environmental issues may arise in the process heating steps. In fact the very oxidizers we use to eliminate VOCs and HAPs often add to the greenhouse gases that are emitted. WES has decades of experience in solving a wide variety of process heating problems. So in addition to energy cost reduction, WES can help your organization de-bottleneck your processes, reduce scrap rates, and reduce environmental impacts. We generally work to improve your processes in two ways. First, we can help you optimize your existing processes by evaluating things such as temperature profiling, product pre-heating, fixture weight reduction, exhaust reduction, and other proven techniques. We may also help you evaluate innovative technology alternatives such as infrared, microwave, induction, and radio frequency heating. As the technical leader and former Managing Director of the Industrial Electrotechnology Laboratory, Mr. Welch has been highly involved with innovative process heating alternatives for over 15 years. He co-authored “Industrial Applications of Electric Infrared Heating” and conducts numerous trainings in process heating topics. He was recently recognized by the US Department of Energy as a “Qualified Process Heating Specialist."
