The ENERGY STARŪ
label is
arguably the most recognized energy efficiency label in the world. This
label can now be applied to your building if it meets
the requirements of EPA's ENERGY
STAR program.
More of your customers will recognize this
certification than LEED or
any other similar program. An added benefit - the ENERGY STAR
certification process is much more straight forward and less onerous.
It involves benchmarking your building with EPA's Portfolio
Manager software and verifying that your building is in the upper 25th
percentile for energy efficiency. If your building meets this
requirement, then a licensed engineer must certify that the building
meets air quality, thermal comfort, and minimum lighting standards.
This on-site verification can generally be done in 1-2 days.

If
your building is one of the
types listed here and you think it may qualify as an Energy Star
building, contact us and we can discuss how to get your building
certified. You can then use the ENERGY STAR labeling and signage to let
your customers know you are doing your part to reduce energy use and
help
the environment. As an added benefit, when we certify your building we
will provide you with additional ideas on how to save even
more energy in your building.
Certification is an easy two-step process. The
first step is to gather your energy data over a recent 12 month period
along with some key building parameters such as square footage and
number of occupants. We place the data into the EPA Portfolio Manager
software to receive a benchmark score for your building. If you are in
the upper 25th percentile, we proceed to Step 2 which is to schedule a
site visit at your convenience to certify the air quality, thermal
comfort, and light levels. Our experience has been that most modern
buildings will meet these standards. Once completed, WES will complete
all applications and paperwork to ensure that you receive ENERGY STAR
recognition. Then you can proudly display the ENERGY STAR logo
and signage on your building, your company literature, and your
website.
